New North Side Trail to Open Late Spring 2013
From the Smith Rock State Park office:
Construction work has begun on the "Summit Loop", a new/upgraded trail that connects the top of the Burma Road in the far NE section of the park with the River Trail in the far NW section.
This is an exciting project that has been the planning stage for many years. The majority of the project is being funded by a Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant and donations of labor from volunteers. The target date for completing the trail is late Spring 2013.
The trail will not be open for public use until we have completed construction and hardened the trail bed. We are asking horseback riders in particular to abstain from using the trail while it's under construction.
The reason we are limiting use on the trail during its construction is to preserve the trail bed and switch backs until the trail bed has been hardened and to prevent conflict or injury to visitors due to equipment and crews working on the trail.
