The Struggle
Within 5.11a ***
Protection -
Mostly bolts with optional gear
to 3 inches
The 1st pitch
is 5.11a, the 2nd is pitch 5.11a, and the 3rd pitch is 5.8. Start
on the same bolted crack as Harvester of
Sorrow but continue up the corner instead of going right. Above
the initial crack, simple moves in the slabby corner lead to the
stemming and face climbing crux. If you want to go multi-pitch,
step left to a belay ledge 15 feet below the sport anchor. Above
the belay ledge, climb the slightly overhanging face crack to a
wildly exposed face climbing finish on perfect rock. An easier finish
ignores the last bolt and solos the final 30 feet (5.8) to the anchor.
The third pitch (5.8) climbs the right side of the low angled arête
to a large belay ledge. This route has some loose rock, runouts
on easy sections, and climbing with an exposed position. Above the
first pitch, this is not an average sport route. Rappel the route
with a 60-meter rope.
