Green Friday Means Free Parking

Chloe Smith on Misery Ridge at Smith Rock State ParkWork off that turkey the day after Thanksgiving with a hike on Smith Rock’s trails instead of the mall.

And do it for free thanks to Green Friday.

For the second successive year, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) will waive day-use parking fees at the 26 state parks the charge them on November 25.

The fee stations will be covered up, so if you really want to pay, send them a donation.

We applaud the trend started by REI with their “Opt Outside” campaign to reverse the burst of consumerism that traditionally marks the start of our holiday season.

And we love that the State parks system makes it easier for families and friends to spend that time together here at Smith Rock with Green Friday. Well done!
