Just outside of the Welcome Center the Native Plant Garden teaches us about the beauty and fragility of desert flora.
With a range of native plants, wild grasses to colorful Salvia and Paint Brush, there’s lots to see–especially at springtime.
Erosion control is huge at Smith Rock. We get so little water–less than 8 inches a year on average.
Once damaged by foot traffic, it can take MANY years for nature to heal the delicate soil structure.
We can all help by staying on the trails to preserve key ecosystems in the park.

Join up with the volunteers from Call of the Wild each month.
It’s a great way to give back to the park and meet some really nice people.
