2018 Smith Rock Raptor Nesting Site Closures

February 7, 2018

Bald eagles closures are in effect now, as of February 6, 2018. They've been flying around actively amongst the crags and even seen mating this year.

Other raptor nesting site closures for climbing and camping at Smith Rock State Park will go into effect Saturday, February 10, 2018. These closures are based on last year's nesting sites and could change, as they have these last few years. We will post updates here and on Facebook. See below for routes currently closed.

For those of you coming here from out of the area, please note these closures only affect a small number of all the routes in the park, and hiking trails remain open.

Normally the closure is February 1-July 31 for golden eagles in the Monument Area. The West Side Crags birds of prey nesting areas usually reopen by the end of June.
