Green Friday is Coming—Have Your Turkey Then Give Thanks for Free Parking at Smith Rock
November 16, 2017
Spend your Black Friday outdoors at Smith Rock State Park the day after Thanksgiving. (You can use the $5 you save parking to shop online later if you must.)
Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) calls it Green Friday. For the fourth successive year, both Oregon and Washington will waive day-use parking fees at the 25 state parks that charge them on November 23.
The fee stations will be covered up, so if you really want to pay, make a donation at the Welcome Center.
We love the trend started by REI with their "Opt Outside" campaign to reverse the burst of consumerism that traditionally marks the start of our holiday season.
And we also love that the State parks system makes it easier for families and friends to spend that time together here at Smith Rock with Green Friday. Something we can all be thankful for.
