Come Find Out How Smith Rock Got Its Name During the "1863 Indian War Skirmish at Smith Rock"

May 24, 2017

This Memorial Day Saturday, 5/27/17, stop outside the Welcome Center Yurt and find out how Smith Rock State Park got its name. Park Interpretative Rangers will reveal the lore of Private Volk (no relation to our founder Mike Volk that we know of) Smith, who died during a "skirmish" during the Snake Indian War in 1863.

In addition, a large array of replica cavalry and native items will be on display for you to get up close and personal with a little of Smith Rock's past.
