Hydroflask Video Series Profiles Alan Watts

January 25, 2018

Every picture tells a story, but video captures a series of moments and gives them context. Local company Hydroflask, who launched the first all-insulated bottle line-up into the market, wanted to do more for its customers than talk features. They wanted to share experiences in the form of video in the "Live" section of their website with "Stories that inspire us, to inspire you."

Hydroflask approached SmithRock.com about a year ago, looking for an inspiring story to tell about Smith Rock. The answer was obvious. The birth of sport climbing in the U.S. and the man that bore most of the labor pain, Alan Watts.

Hydro Flask was born in Bend, Oregon because we love the mountains and the outdoor way of life. It’s in the products that we create, but more than that it’s in our brand – and individual – DNA. Whether it’s climbing, running or hiking, Smith Rock holds a special place in all our hearts. It’s one of those magical places that needs to be celebrated and protected.

Alan Watts had an enormous impact on climbing and really framed it (through the park) for the future. What he started at Smith had ramifications for the sport all over the world. His story is one of perseverance and a deeply ingrained passion to evolve himself as a climber, and the sport along with him.
