Misery Ridge—a Love Story in Two Acts.

August 8, 2019

Rachel Wilker has been going to the top of Misery Ridge on a yearly basis since her dad strapped her to his back via her baby backpack carrier. A ritual for her close-knit family, the Idaho vacationers would never pass up an opportunity to say hi to Monkey Face, face-to-face, at the top of Misery Ridge. Today the ritual changed up a bit.

It started with a scream. Of delight. Rachel was up on an overlook high above the usual rest stop at the shaded bench across from Monkey Face. Then all was quiet as she was locked in an embrace, being kissed and caressed by someone who had just shocked her, in a good way.

That someone was her newly betrothed, Conor Cook, also of Boise. From the laughter and applause we could tell Rachel didn’t see it coming. While she was busy celebrating we asked them to kiss again, this time for our camera. They didn’t hesitate. Not a tiny bit.

We’ll let Rachel and her sister tell you why it was such a surprise.

Both the Monkey and Dad approve of Rachel’s engagement.
