New Boardwalks on the Smith Rock River Trail

August 17, 2018

While we have been dodging the heat and smoke of these past couple weeks, those hard working Smith Rock rangers have snuck in some park improvements.

We caught up with Rangers Nolan and Patrick on the boardwalk replacement of the third set of four on the River Trail. Over the years and the big uptick in visitors to the park, the wooden boardwalks over gullies and drainage areas on the trail that were put in to help with spring flooding have been hammered by foot and bike traffic.

New 12' x 3' boards have replaced the creaking 2" thick boards with something the rangers think will extend the longevity of the boardwalks for the near future at least.

Here's Ranger Nolan Ferdinand to explain what they've been working on:

Thanks once again park staff at Smith Rock for working hard to keep the trails in great shape!
