Some New Guys in Brown Around Town—the Park, that Is.
May 11, 2018
If you were at Smith Rock for the Spring Thing a couple of weeks ago, you may have noted a couple of new faces from the park team.
They are seasonal rangers (Park Ranger Assistants) that started in mid-April and run through the summer months into fall. The park team now has an evening shift with varied hours, which should help tremendously with rule advisory, public safety, and facilities maintenance.
Kyle Sparks filled the position vacated by Eric Iseman, who retired last year after many years of service to Smith Rock. With a Park & Rec degree, Kyle comes to us from Boone, North Carolina with a penchant for park sustainability. With trail building experience, he's got some goals for his position here at Smith.
Patrick Tinsley fills the position vacated by Corey McCarthy, a dedicated seasonal ranger for several seasons here at Smith, now in the National Park system. Patrick, while born and raised in Idaho, has been looking down at the park every summer from the rim since he was an infant. We'll let him tell you how working at Smith Rock is a dream fulfilled in several ways.
They're both excited to be here and ready to serve the needs of the Smith Rock State Park visitor. Welcome Kyle and Patrick!
