No, the water hasn’t been shut off for winter, yet. A bad water sample report came back to park management Wednesday, October 17, prompting them to shock the water lines.
Ranger Josie Barnum says, “You may notice a slight chlorine taste and smell for the next day or two.” They plan to re-flush the water lines and retest today.
The bathrooms remain open, but drinking fountains are off until until a clean water sample is obtained. A “boil water” sign has been issued in the Bivy Campground. Stay tuned through our Facebook page for updates.
Such an incident is extremely rare at Smith Rock State Park, however stringent testing systems are in place to help the rangers take care of it, and us. Thanks guys!
